Contamination ProfilingBackground:
An industrial unit adjoining the customer’s storage facility was completely destroyed by a fire believed to have been started by a stray firework. Several smaller fires started in the customer’s premises as the connecting fire doors began to fail due to the ferocity of the blaze. Various items of electronic gaming equipment were affected by smoke deposits and extinguisher water.Issues:
With such an intense fire occurring so close to the customer’s premises, concerns were raised as to the impact such an event would have on the equipment in storage at the time.DFA Activity:
DFA carried out a detailed visual inspection of the affected equipment followed by chemical swab analyses, to determine the level of any corrosive chloride contamination produced by burning PVC. This revealed that the ingress of smoke had been minimal and the deposits found were free from harmful chloride. A small number of items had sustained significant thermal damage and extinguisher water damage, and DFA were able to confirm that they were beyond economical reinstatement.Benefits of using DFA:
DFA’s involvement proved that the majority of the equipment in storage would not suffer the effects of secondary damage such as corrosion. This allowed the customer extra time to consider all their options, one of which now included the reinstatement of the equipment.
